The self-propelled feature is very good for carpet. But the powered driving wheel has grooves and it is located at the bottom of the vacuum cleaner. The grooves will leave marks on your wood flooring, especially if you have newer shiny wood floor or tiles. The marks are very difficult to remove. You must use small amount of paint thinner and rubbed real hard to remove the marks. But it doesn't seem to leave marks on my light color carpet. Now I only use it to vacuum the carpeted area. You guide the machine almost effortlessly backward or forward over the carpet. The motor is very powerful and vacuums very well. I also like the air-powered rotating brush attachment for cleaning carpeted stairs. By the way I bought the model with bag for easier disposal of dust and dirt.
